Art Scholarship

The Art Scholarship is offered to a student whose knowledge of basic art concepts is evident in meaningful class projects and/or independent artistic expressions submitted for evaluation. For consideration, the applicant must complete the following steps:

Take the Scholarship/Entrance Test: Saturday, October 28, 2016

Sit for the Art Scholarship Test on Wednesday, November 8, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. The test will measure the comprehension of art concepts, vocabulary and techniques appropriate to an elementary curriculum. It is necessary to contact the Admission Office at 215-233-9133 or admiss@msjacad.org in order to register for the test.

Submit a collection of between ten to fifteen art works. 3D works may be included but need to be well marked and wrapped for protection. Students should keep in mind that the submitted art works should represent their skills with as many different media as possible and they should only include their best work. Artworks must be submitted on the day of the Art Scholarship Test. Portfolios may be picked up in the art room a week after the test.

Other Requirements

It is understood that the scholarship recipient will take one art credit per year for four years, apply herself earnestly toward an excellence in art, maintain an A- average in art courses and a B average overall in academic studies.

Art scholars are expected to help with set design and graphic art for the school musical production each year, post the birthday bulletin board and design concert covers. In addition, an art scholar is to be a leader and a role model for her peers in art class.
