Theology Teacher

Position Summary
Mount Saint Joseph Academy is a Catholic, college preparatory school for girls located outside of Philadelphia with a mission of empowering young women to realize their fullest potential. The Mount is seeking an innovative and collaborative educator for a full-time position that works in both the Theology Department and Campus Ministry, within the Office of Mission & Inclusion.
The successful candidate will partner with the Theology Faculty and Campus Ministry to present a broad range of topics and programming in a style that is both student-centered and mission-driven. The candidate will develop a deep understanding of the mission, charism, and spirituality of the Sisters of Saint Joseph and speak fluently and comprehensively about its central tenets. As a teacher, the candidate will be skilled in teaching various learners at all levels and will be fluent in various types of assessment strategies. Approach to Theology and Ministry
Theology and ministry at Mount Saint Joseph Academy are rooted in the Catholic tradition and the mission, charism, and spirituality of the Sisters of Saint Joseph. The successful candidate will approach students with welcome, humility, and pastoral sensitivity to help them grow in their learning and in their spirituality. This work requires a thoughtful and student-centered approach to Catholic teaching: one that is faithful, intellectually honest, attentive to conscience and lived experience, and never coercive. Teaching Responsibilities
- Support the mission of Mount Saint Joseph Academy, in particular its vision to empower young women to realize their fullest potential through the spirit of unity, reconciliation, gentleness and compassion.
- Develop rigorous, student-centered, creative, and appropriate lesson plans, assignments, and assessments that align with or embody the Mission and Charism of the Sisters of Saint Joseph.
- Create inclusive classroom and ministry spaces where students of varied religious backgrounds, levels of belief, identities, and experiences feel welcomed, respected, and able to participate meaningfully.

Campus Ministry Responsibilities
- Demonstrate a pastoral, synodal approach to ministry that meets students where they are, invites honest questions, and supports spiritual growth without pressure.
- Design, schedule and coordinate specific Campus Ministry events, including overnight service-immersion trips and after-school service team activities. Manage bookings of venues and partner organizations as required. Ensures safety procedures are followed.
- Serve as a chaperone on retreats, service-immersion trips and after-school service team activities, ensuring student safety and supporting programming. Includes driving a 9-passenger van.
- Engage students in Catholic social teaching and the justice priorities of the Sisters of Saint Joseph, including immigration, care for creation, racial and economic justice, and the dignity and inclusion of marginalized communities.
- Support the formation of young women as faith-filled leaders and agents of transformation, including attention to women’s leadership, voice, and participation in the life of the Church and society.
- Assist with coordination of school liturgies.
- Build relationships with students; serve as a welcoming, pastoral, supportive presence in the school.
- Facilitate student meetings - lead prayer, create a welcoming environment, facilitate spiritual conversation.

Position Summary

The Mount is seeking an experienced and collaborative Social Studies teacher to join a mission-driven department. The successful candidate will teach across psychology and sociology, with AP Psychology as a core assignment and the possibility of an additional history course depending on departmental need. We are looking for someone with 3–5 years of classroom experience who brings genuine content depth, a student-centered approach, and a passion for empowering young women to become agents of transformation in an ever-changing society.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach a full load of Social Studies courses, with AP Psychology as a primary assignment; additional courses may include General Psychology, Sociology, and a history course

Associate Director of College Counseling

Position Status: Full-Time (10-month)
Position Summary
The Associate Director of College Counseling is a full-time, student-facing member of the college counseling team at Mount Saint Joseph Academy. Reporting to and partnering closely with the Dean of College Counseling and Experiential Learning, this person carries a full college counseling caseload while also contributing to the design and delivery of college counseling curriculum for juniors and seniors. The Associate Director is both a skilled practitioner and an innovative thinker: someone who meets students and families with clarity and care, and who brings vision and initiative to the development of programming and professional practice.
Responsibilities
The Associate Director will:
- Guide students and families through conversations about fit, selectivity, aspiration, and discernment with both honesty and care
- Partner with the Dean of College Counseling and Experiential Learning to sustain and evolve a program that responds thoughtfully to a changing admissions landscape
- Carry a full college counseling caseload, guiding students and families through the college search, application, and decision-making process beginning in the junior year
- Write individualized, narrative-driven counselor recommendations that represent each student with authenticity and depth
- Utilize college counseling platforms effectively to manage caseload, track student progress, and facilitate the application process
- Teach college counseling curriculum to juniors and seniors, developing content that prepares students for each stage of the post-secondary process
- Spearhead programming initiatives within the college counseling office, including student education workshops and family information events
- Collaborate with colleagues across the school, including deans, faculty, and advisors, to support students holistically
- Cultivate professional relationships with college admission representatives; participate in regional and national college counseling conferences

The Ideal Candidate

The candidate will help build young players’ confidence, skill and potential to transform them into self-aware, strong individuals, in sports and in their daily lives. The candidate will effectively interact with all types of audiences such as school administrators, colleagues, parents, students, and community members to build our reputation at the highest level.
Role and Responsibilities
All coaches are responsible for ensuring the fun and safe development of our athletes and teams in their chosen sport, understanding that our sports teams represent Mount Saint Joseph Academy (MSJA) in everything they do and everywhere they go. The JV Head Coach supports the Varsity Coach to coordinate the teams’ efforts in training, practices, games, etc. The JV Head Coach assists the Varsity Coach in performing duties including but not limited to those listed below:

Train a team of athletes on a constant basis for the ideal physical condition in their sport by using proven methods to help improve nutrition, muscle development, athletic skill and mental toughness.

Teach individuals about everything related to the sport’s rules and regulations to help athletes develop a high level of understanding of their chosen game.
- Create specific physical performance conditioning programs to increase athletic performance, confidence and team winning percentage.
- Evaluate team and individual athletic performance consistently using video, photography, data sheets and other means; address skills improvement during practice sessions.
- Work with other assistant coaches (if assigned) and other staff members to carry out goals and strategies for the team(s).
- Maintain top quality of team equipment, supplies and facilities, such as uniforms, practice equipment, conditioning materials, game balls, fields, indoor game areas or courts. Work with the Head Coach or Athletic Director on any areas of need.
- Report game statistics as required.
- Report any injuries, incidents, or concerns to the school immediately. Follow all protocols and directions for appropriate communication with affected persons (school administration, parents, emergency personnel, etc.).

- Demonstrated understanding of the fundamentals of the designated sport (rules, regulations, strategy of play, development tactics, safety, etc.)
- Demonstrated positive attitude and ability to lead a team in fitness, personal training and/or sports coaching
- Ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions; ability to communicate effectively and efficiently
- Demonstrates proactive steps to ensure the safety and security of students, faculty and staff colleagues
- Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees, students, parents and the general public that demonstrates courtesy, tact and diplomacy in dealing with others.

Assistant Varsity and Freshman/Novice Crew Coaches

Mount Saint Joseph Academy Crew is seeking varsity and freshman/novice assistant coaches for the 2025-2026 season.
Role and Responsibilities
The assistant coaches will partner with the Head Coach and/or Head Freshman/Novice Coach in the development of the student-athletes by providing high-quality instruction and fostering a positive, athlete-centered team culture. Responsibilities will include:
- Instructing on-water and land-based practices, with a focus on rowing/coxing fundamentals, technical skill advancement, holistic training and performance, and race execution
- Evaluating team and individual athletic performance, and addressing skill improvement during practice sessions for long-term development
- Monitoring athlete development and well-being, and helping to maintain a safe and high-functioning training environment
- Collaborating across coaching staff to ensure consistency of training, standards, goals, selection, and strategies for the team
- Maintaining standards of performance consistent with the Mount’s goals of personal, academic, and athletic excellence
- Instilling the values of hard work, determination, resilience, and teamwork
- Reinforcing a strong team culture rooted in the values of the Mount and Mount Athletics program
- Maintaining consistent, proactive communication with the Head Coach and Athletic Director to ensure alignment on program goals, athlete development, team needs, and adherence to departmental policies and expectations.
The coach will serve as a positive role model and will represent Mount Saint Joseph Academy with distinction while promoting long-term athlete development, performance improvement, and love for the sport.
Schedule
Practices are 6 days/week at our boathouse on the Schuylkill River in Conshohocken, PA (weekdays from 5:00-7:30 pm and weekend mornings between 8:00-11:30 am). The team competes locally and nationally most weekends from mid-March through mid-June (some travel may be required).
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have, or be working toward, a Bachelor’s degree with previous collegiate rowing experience and/or previous coaching experience preferred. Coaches will need to be CPR/First Aid Certified (or the ability to become certified) and have USRowing Level 1 Coaching Certification (or willingness to become certified). Strong communication and interpersonal skills to support peer and student-athlete engagement are necessary.
Compensation
Coaches are paid a seasonal stipend based on level of commitment, level of responsibility, and level of competitive rowing/coaching experience.
About Mount Crew
Mount Crew has a storied legacy dating back to 1999. Each year, the program supports 70-80 athletes, most of whom start their rowing career in their freshman year at the Mount. Over the past 26 years, the team has competed at the highest levels nationally, claiming 22 SRAA National Championships, 44 Stotesbury Cup victories, and 74 Philadelphia City Championships. The team has taken home the points trophy from the Philadelphia Scholastic Rowing Association 21 of the past 22 years and landed crews in 11 USRowing Youth Nationals grand finals.
