May 26: COVID-19 Update
Over the last 3 weeks our Mount community and surrounding regions has seen a steady rise in the number of positive Covid-19 cases. Montgomery County is currently at a high county community level based upon CDC guidance.
We are currently maintaining our mask optional policy at the Mount, but inviting students and staff to make a choice in masking that reflects the spirit of keeping the community safe. We are closely monitoring our school community and the region and will adjust our protocols as needed.
Please keep your student home if she is sick and test for COVID-19 per the symptom list on the school guidance webpage linked below. Students should not return to school unless fever free for 24 hours; this is protocol with or without a positive COVID diagnosis. You and your student will be made aware if she is considered a close contact to a positive COVID-19 case by our school nurse or an administrator. As a reminder, your student should have a mask in their possession each school day as they may be asked by another to please wear a mask and may be notified that they are a close contact to a positive case and therefore should be wearing a mask.

December 22: COVID-19 Update
We will have an official Mount COVID-19 protocol update on Thursday, January 13, 2022 to prepare for a safe return to school.
Our COVID-19 Taskforce will meet over break to review relevant data and indicators including but not limited to seasonality of the virus, local school district's case positivity rates, and our Mount community COVID vaccine percentage, in order to determine our future health and safety plans.
The COVID-19 booster is available for the 16 year and older population. We encourage all to get fully vaccinated and to get the booster over winter break. Increasing our Mount community vaccination percentage is the best way to ensure in person learning.
Please find the Athletics calendar here and information on our website under the Athletics tab on the COVID-19, Policies and Procedures, and Athletics News pages. Please upload your daughter's vaccination ASAP.

December 16: COVID-19 Protocol Update
This update is intended to provide information on the status of mask wearing for the purposes of mitigating the spread of COVID-19 at the Mount. At this time, and through the end of the first semester, our existing health and safety protocol remains in effect, which includes mandatory universal masking for all students, staff and visitors. We will have an official COVID-19 protocol update on Thursday, January 12, 2022 to prepare for a safe return to school.
On Friday, December 10, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court affirmed the Commonwealth Court's Decision which found the state-wide Order issued by the Acting Secretary of Health was unlawful. This determination was based solely upon the process used to issue the Order and not on the basis that mask mandates are unconstitutional or otherwise legally problematic. As a result of this Supreme Court decision, each school district and independent secondary institutions are now required to determine whether masks will be required in school buildings and school events and, if so, any exceptions to such a requirement. As stated above, our current Health and Safety Plan includes universal masking except when eating or drinking.
As of November 18, 2021, the following are COVID procedures for the Winter athletic season:
Basketball
Student athletes actively playing may be unmasked.
Coaches, players on the bench, managers and all spectators are required to be masked.
There will be no food nor drinks in the stands.
Indoor Track
All runners must be masked.
All unvaccinated athletes must be tested weekly in order to compete at Alvernia or Lehigh Universities. A negative test must be presented.
No spectators are allowed. These regulations reflect the hosts' protocols.
Swimming
Mask must be worn entering the building and while on the deck. The only exception is for water activities (pool or shower)
No spectators are allowed.
What is the current status of COVID-19 in our schools and community?
The townships we serve have seen steadily rising positivity and incidence rates, and are unfortunately sustaining a HIGH rate of transmission. We continue to monitor the Montgomery County COVID-19 data hub daily as information is available.
Our primary goal is to provide a safe and healthy environment for our Mount community. We will continue to monitor the pandemic over winter break to determine the health and safety plans for the second semester. Our COVID-19 Taskforce will meet over break to review relevant data and indicators including but not limited to seasonality of the virus, local school district's case positivity rates, and our Mount community COVID vaccine percentage, in order to determine our future health and safety plans.
Vaccination is currently the leading public health prevention strategy to end the COVID-19 pandemic. Please consider getting the COVID-19 vaccine. The COVID-19 booster is now approved for the 16 year and older population. We encourage all to get vaccinated and to get the booster over winter break.
As we all have a personal responsibility to maintain our safety and promote that of others, all members of the Mount community who are sick need to stay home, contact their medical professional, and seek a diagnostic COVID-19 test. If your student needs to be tested for COVID-19 due to being sick and/or being considered a close contact to a positive case the COVID-19 test cannot be an at-home test. Please be sure to notify Francie McGovern.

December 2: COVID-19 Protocol Update About PA Mask Mandate
This week, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court granted the Acting Secretary of Health’s Emergency Application to Reinstate Automatic Supersedes (the stay). Consequently, the stay will not be lifted onDecember 4, 2021, as ordered by Commonwealth Court, and the masking mandate remains in effect until further order of court. The Supreme Court will hear oral argument on the merits of the case next Wednesday, December 8th.
Per the mandate, all Mount community members are required to mask when they are not actively eating or drinking. With twelve school days including exams remaining in the semester, our goal is to prioritize health in order to prioritize learning. With the mask mandate as a mitigation effort to control the spread of COVID-19, we also hope that community members will be able to enjoy the extended break and Christmas season with their loved ones in good health.
This time before the break allows for our community members with younger children and siblings to be fully vaccinated and our community members including student body age 18 to get the COVID-19 booster. Additionally, for our vaccinated student population, when masks are worn correctly in the classroom or a structured outside setting, students are not considered a close contact to an infected student. Therefore, they do not have to quarantine or be tested for COVID-19 and lose critical learning time.
COVID-19 remains a living reality in and around our community, and our primary goal is to provide a safe and healthy environment for students. We will continue to monitor the situation and adjust as needed and reevaluate after winter break. Our COVID-19 Taskforce meets to review relevant data and indicators including but not limited to seasonality of the virus, local school district's case positivity rates, our Mount community COVID vaccine percentage, proximity to travel, and the current illnesses in our community in order to determine our future health and safety plans. Please find a few data points below considered by the Task-force in crafting school-wide COVID-19 protocol decisions.
● The School District of Springfield Township along with school districts that we serve continue to fluctuate between substantial and high levels of community transmission.
● Current vaccine status: 100% colleagues are vaccinated. 90% of students are vaccinated.
● There has been an increase in illness this week returning from Thanksgiving break with pending COVID-19 testing for students.
The current Montgomery County School Exclusion Recommendations is shown below. Thank you for your partnership and collaboration to support a healthy learning environment for all.
Thank you for your support and adherence to our COVID-19 safety protocol. Our goal is to provide for a safe, healthy, and productive learning environment for students.

August 7: School Opening Procedures for 2021-22
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We hope you are enjoying a restorative summer. After a year that brought forth many challenges, we are proud of our resilience as a community. We look forward to a joyful return to the Mount and a full restoration of the unity that makes us unique.
We will open in-person for the fall semester. While the pandemic is far from over, we are writing to inform you of important safety-related measures to our school procedures. As we have experienced, these are unprecedented and unpredictable times, so the policies outlined here are subject to change based on public health requirements. We should be ready, as a community, to make the changes necessary at any point.
First, we recommend vaccinations for all students. The higher our campus vaccination rate is, the greater the likelihood that we will not need to require additional restrictions. Per recent guidance from Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) regarding reopening, COVID-19 vaccinations are the single most reliable intervention for ensuring safety and returning to pre-pandemic activities. Please send a copy or picture of the vaccine card or printout from your doctor's office with the information about the vaccination dates via email to our school nurse, Francie McGovern, before the start of school on August 23, 2021.
Please note that Montgomery County continues to offer multiple vaccine clinics throughout the County at no cost to residents. A list of county-run clinics is available at www.montcopa.org/covid-
At this time, fully vaccinated students will be able to attend all school activities without masks, indoors and outdoors. Vaccinated community members are also welcome to wear masks as they feel necessary.
As we strive to serve and keep safe the dear neighbor and their loved ones, restrictions for unvaccinated students in a school setting include:
● Masking indoors and physical distancing at all times
● Quarantine upon exposure, duration determined by case rates, and restrictions on school-related travel as specified by Montgomery County Office of Public Health and the CDC. Please note, we will not accommodate virtual learning in the same way that we did during the 2020-21 academic year.
● Other restrictions, depending on incidence and positivity rates, may include COVID-19 screening, testing and/or other precautions as required.
The current Montgomery County School Exclusion Recommendations can be found at COVID-19 School Exclusion Guide.
We will continue to monitor public health requirements and recommendations and be prepared to make changes as necessary. It is critical that if someone is unwell or manifesting symptoms of COVID-19 that they remain at home. Each of us has a personal responsibility to monitor our health during this critical time.
Safety protocols for all vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals currently in place include:
● All indoor spaces are set up for 3 ft. distancing per CDC recommendations
● Our newly renovated bathroom facilities allow for touchless hand washing and drying
● Hand sanitizers remain available throughout school facilities
● Continued use of outdoor space for lunch blocks in addition to cafeteria seating
Thank you for your attention and commitment to our community. Enjoy the remainder of summer. As the opening day of school approaches, please look for further communication regarding updates to our current school opening plans. We look forward to seeing you in person soon!
Sincerely,
Sister Charlene Diorka, SSJ and Elizabeth Blessing
