2025 Founders' Day: Honoring the Legacy of the Sisters of Saint Joseph

On Friday, October 10, 2025, the Mount community came together to honor the rich legacy of the Sisters of Saint Joseph —women whose spirit of unity, faith, and service continues to inspire everything we do.

The day began with words of wisdom from our school leaders, setting the tone for reflection and gratitude. Led by our seniors, the community embarked on a mindful walk to the Motherhouse on the shared grounds of Chestnut Hill College. There, students, faculty, and staff gathered for a special Founders’ Day liturgy celebrating this year’s theme: “Pilgrims of Hope—Together as One.”

During the liturgy, senior Kristen Savage ’26 offered an inspiring reflection that beautifully captured the heart of the Mount’s mission. “Be present, be mindful, be love,” she shared. “Be gentle with yourself and the dear neighbor, for we are all still evolving. Learn to let go of your ego and then choose love.”

Kristen reflected on how the Mount’s guiding themes over the past four years—Be Love, Be Mindful, Let Go of Your Ego, and Be Present—have shaped her journey as a student and as a person. “These themes are just one quality that makes Mount so special,” she said. “Other than the strong sisterhood and community exhibited at the Mount, or the rigorous academics we are provided, these themes provide goals and a purpose.”

As a senior, Kristen shared how she now strives to “be present and be a pilgrim of hope,” reminding her peers that living out the Mount’s mission is not only about achievement but also about faith and compassion. “As Mount students and Christians, our goal is to build a strong foundation in the present, so we can lead the future with light and compassion,” she said. Her words echoed the Gospel message that we are “the light of the world,” and she encouraged her classmates to let that light shine—through both extraordinary accomplishments and everyday acts of kindness. Kristen closed her reflection with a message that perfectly encapsulates the day’s spirit: “I hope that everyone can learn to sow all of their wonderful qualities and talents into the harvest, letting them bloom over time. With the legacy the Sisters of Saint Joseph left behind, we should feel encouraged to embody love in action, letting our light shine across the world.”

Following the liturgy, the community returned to the Mount for an afternoon filled with sisterhood and bonding—celebrating what it means to be part of a legacy that continues to grow through each student.
