Amilyn Thomas '22 Honored by Governor for Work with United Nations
Amilyn Thomas ’22 received a Citation from Governor of Pennsylvania Tom Wolf for her work in representing the U.S. and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania at the United Nations in September.
Amilyn traveled to Harrisburg on November 3 to meet with the Governor in his office. She spoke with Governor Wolf about child rights and education…and even South Indian food and monsoons! Stephanie Sun, Executive Director of Governor’s Advisory Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs, was also present.
The Governor’s Citation reads, in part, “You have demonstrated your commitment to education and your community through rigorous dedication to your studies and extracurriculars. You have reminded all of us across the commonwealth to try our best, even when facing an obstacle such as a pandemic. It has certainly inspired me as well as numerous others in your community. Our commonwealth thrives because of students like you.”
Amilyn addressed the United Nations during the General Day of Discussion. The topic of the day was children’s rights and alternative care. Speakers discussed the need for care for children around the world, with an emphasis on equality and equal access for all.
