Changes to Mount soccer, on and off the field

With a new season ahead, the MSJA soccer team sees significant changes from the departure of the
2020 graduating class, Covid-19 and owing to events that occurred earlier in the calendar year.
Eight players graduated this past spring, including Madison Horning ’20 (all-league striker) and Gina
Sassane ’20 (multi-year starter in goal).
Due to health conditions, Bill Naydan, head coach of Mount’s soccer team since 2016 and mathematics faculty member, has had to step down for the fall season. He has been teaching remotely at the Mount for the 2020 fall semester.
The MSJ booters will have two familiar faces returning to coach the team. Graduate of the Mount Lisa Roman ‘13 and David McCauley will be coaching. Elaine Byerley will also be joining the coaching staff.
Seniors Emily Friel, Cayla Higginson, and Ava Picofazzi will be the senior tri-captains this season. Returning varsity players include: Tara Boyd ‘21, Emily Jones ‘21, Cam Mailey ‘21 and Alex Ritter '21. Megan Braun ’21 will also being joining the varsity team.
Juniors include Kate Kelly, Paige Metzler, Sam Ammons, Delaney Mattson, Katie McGovern, and Anna Shields. Sophomores: Giana Argano, Kiki Fox, Sophia D'Alanzo, Kate Donovan, Meghan Hughes, Meg Kelemick, Grace Kussay, and Kate Vyzaniarius. One freshman will also be playing on the varsity roster: Kelsey McGovern, sister of Katie McGovern.
