Four Students Named National Merit Scholarship Finalists
Four MSJA seniors were named National Merit Scholarship Finalists: Kaitlyn Przydzial , Megan Ciasullo, Natalie Walker, and Gabriella Ford. All four students were previously named National Merit Scholarship Seminfinalists in September 2018.
The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.6 million entrants each year, and by meeting published program entry and participation requirements. About 16,000 students, or approximately one-third of the 50,000 high scorers, qualify as Semifinalists. They are the highest scoring entrants in each state. For Semifinalists to become Finalists, they must fulfill several requirements, which include completing an application, having a consistently very high academic record, writing an essay, being endorsed and recommended by a school official, and taking the SAT and earning a score that confirms the PSAT/NMSQT performance.
Congratulations to these students on this accomplishment!
