Honoring Black History Month at the Mount

Mr. Tyrone Macey, performed Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” and "I've Been to the Mountaintop" speeches for students and faculty. Mr. Macey is a longtime member of the maintenance staff at Mount Saint Joseph Academy and has a background in theater and performance.

His powerful delivery of the well-known speech was stirring and he also encouraged students to reflect on the things some of us may take for granted today, that were not customary for all at the time of Dr. King’s speech on August 28, 1963.

We are grateful to Mr. Macey for sharing his talents and look forward to more Black History Month programming throughout the month, including a deep dive into the African Diaspora and varying cultures among people who identify as Black, a presentation on Afrolatino identity, a discussion on racial bias in mainstream media, an exploration of Motown Music and much more!
