Ilsa Maguire's Service Trip to Uganda Featured in Ambler Publication

The April issue of The Shuttle, the monthly publication by Weaver's Way Co-op (which has locations in Ambler and Chestnut Hill), features an inspiring story on Mount student Ilsa Maguire '21.

Ilsa, an Ambler resident, traveled to Uganda last year to raise awareness of the issues young Ugandan women face. Since half the population lives on less than $2 per day, bras are considered a luxury. This is problematic for all girls, especially those who want to play sports.

So last year, Ilsa set out to collect bras. She started by organizing a bra drive at the Mount. She collected 900 bras (300 from Mount students), then traveled to Uganda last summer to distribute the bras to Ugandan teenagers. This year, Ilsa is collected again--with a goal of 1,000 bras.

In addition to a bra drive at the Academy, she collected at Balance Gym in Chestnut Hill, Jenkintown Hot Yoga, Maguire’s Market, and Gywnedd Mercy Academy.
