Malta Boat Club Honors Lois Trench-Hines '60

Lois Trench-Hines ‘60 was honored with the Dr. George Morton Illman Award, the Malta Boat Club’s most prestigious award. Lois received the award at a ceremony on November 19, and is one of just a few women recipients since the award’s inception in 1960. Since she began rowing in 1965, Lois has been dedicated to the sport, and she has been an integral part of MSJA’s crew program.

Throughout her life, Lois advocated for greater access to rowing, particularly for women. She played an instrumental role in bringing women’s rowing to the Dad Vail Regatta, and to the Mount as a founding member of the Academy’s crew program. Lois established the Hines Rowing Center and the Whitemarsh Boat Club. Through all her efforts and initiatives, the outcome remains the same: Lois’s impact along the Schuylkill River is immeasurable. Congratulations to Lois on this well-deserved award!
