Winning the three sprint races and the 800 meters, and sweeping the top three places in the high jump and javelin, host Mount St. Joseph got the better of two visiting Athletic Association of Catholic Academies track teams last Monday afternoon.
In head-to-head scoring, the host Magic topped the Panthers of St. Basil Academy, 86-45, and outscored the Lions of the Country Day School of the Sacred Heart, 105-23. St. Basil prevailed against Sacred Heart, 71-38.
The Mount also won two of the three relay races, starting with a victory in the 4 x 800 meters in 10 minutes, 46.6 seconds by sophomore Kylie McGovern, freshmen Emily Carr and Lexi Weeks and junior Meg Ciasullo.
Mount St. Joe unleashed a freshman force in the sprints, with Annie Lemelin stacking up victories in the 100 meter dash (13.1 seconds), the 200 (26.9) and the 400 (1:03.0). In the 400 another MSJ freshman, Emily Baer, placed third.
More Mount St. Joseph sprinters enjoyed success in the 4 x 100 meter relay. Senior Megan Dodaro, junior Kiara Pile, freshman Carolyn Taylor and sophomore Gina Sassane brought the baton back in 54.8 seconds.
The Mounties also collected first-place points in the 800 thanks to junior Ryan Good, who won in 2:28.8.
