MSJA Alumna, Broadway Actress Rose Hemingway ’01 Visits Musical Cast

MSJA Alumna, Broadway Actress Rose Hemingway ’01 Visits Musical Cast

Rose Szczesniak Hemingway ’01 surprised students in the cast of MSJA’s fall musical, “Mamma Mia!” with a guest lecture and Q&A session on August 20. Students were thrilled to hear the perspective of not only a Broadway actress, but one who was cast in the musical they are performing this fall.

Hemingway starred in the national Broadway tour of “Mamma Mia!,” in which she played the role of Sophie. She also starred in the Broadway musical “How to Succeed in Business” alongside Daniel Radcliffe and John Larroquette, and was cast in the national tour of “Kinky Boots.”

Rose talked with the students about what a career as a Broadway actress is really like (and all the highs and lows that come with it). She shared with them advice on breaking into the business, how she prepares for auditions, and what it’s like balancing her acting career with her personal life (she and her husband welcomed their first child, a son, last year). She shared insider knowledge of the industry with the students, who asked her a range of questions.

Rose studied music at Catholic University before relocating to New York to launch her Broadway career.
