Noelle O'Brien '24 Poem Selected for Moonstone Arts Center's New Voices Anthology for Spring 2024

Noelle O'Brien '24 has been selected for the Moonstone Arts Center's New Voices Anthology for Spring 2024. This program is specifically designed for young poets and aims to not only provide them with a platform to showcase their work but also welcome them into the larger Philadelphia poetry community.

shedded skin, same bones
however well I shed my skin
my bones remain the same
try as I may to rebegin
my execution fails my aim

for all the petals that I’ve shed
my stem is green as always
and every thought within my head
is rooted in its ways

repaint my walls and carpet floors
obscure foundations and hide the beams
oil all the doors
for all the renovations, it’s still not as it seems

shed skin and petals and once more repaint
spin your wheels and weave your thread
run from every inner taint
in the end the fates hold all the power
and determine all until you’re dead
